Flashlight Reader Program Update
The Flashlight Readers program ran through the Guelph Community Health Centre at 20 Shelldale Cres June 2025 - June 2026 in the CRR Book Den.
The Book Den received great attendance from families eager to add more books to their homes. However, we noticed a need to increase participation in the Flashlight Readers program. After reflecting on how to better engage the 6-12 age group, we decided to bring the Flashlight Readers program directly to the children and deliver it to the places where they already spend their time.
This enabled us to ask our collaborative partners for assistance with program promotion and to provide free books and reading support to their participants.
We contacted our partners to arrange on-site visits to their programs and deliver the Flashlight Readers program. We took books with us and delivered the FR program to the following groups and locations:
Brant Ave Summer Camp
FUN (Food Uniting Neighbours) at Shelldale
Shelldale Family Gateway Youth Group
Later, we relocated Flashlight Readers to our main location at 210 Silvercreek. This change allowed us to extend our time to reach more children, and we were more than happy to do it.
